This one was a looooooong weekend…in a good way. 🙂

Megan and Greg both were living outside of Kentucky during the planning process for their wedding, so we had to resort to a lot of Skype, text messages, and emails leading up to the big day. The plan was for me to come to Lexington the Friday before to tag along to the rehearsal dinner. There were A LOT of people gathering together for the first time in a long time and in some cases the first time ever.

With me already being in Lexington to check in, we decided with a jam packed wedding day to follow, that it would be a great idea to go ahead and shoot all the details (rings, wedding dress, shoes, etc) the day ahead. Having all of that finished in camera a day ahead of time was exactly what we needed for the next day.

Plus, it never hurts having Keeneland to yourself for a day.

The actual day of the wedding we managed to stay on time thanks to Dough Smith Events + Designs. If there was any “padding” to the schedule we used up every second, but we stayed the course. Which wasn’t exactly easy when you think of the total number of people traveling, not including a large bridal party with double the bridesmaids.

Thankfully weather cooperated and we were able to not only get a shot in the starting gate, but at a few other locations around Keeneland that were very important to Megan, the bride.

The ceremony took place in the tunnel that leads to the track. That was a first for me at Keeneland, but hopefully not the last. Another first and a surprise for the guests was an appearance by the official Kentucky Derby Bugler, who played to announce the bride coming down the aisle.

After the ceremony we handled family portraits and it was off to a night of dancing for the reception. There was cake in the face, a live painting of the first dance, and a night that went deep into the evening.

Afterwards I drove home, backed-up my cards, took a quick nap, and headed back because the father of the bride was holding a family cookout for the guests on Sunday. He had asked me earlier in the day if I could make an appearance to document the day as well.
